Abstract

1, 077, 583. Exhaust-driven turbochargers for I. C. engines. GARRETT CORPORATION. Aug. 4, 1964 [Aug. 5, 1963; Sept. 6, 1963], No.31157/64. Headings F1B and F1G. Fluid from separate pulsating sources is fed through separate passages to a common turbine rotor, which passages lead to turbine inlets which extend around the whole circumference of the turbine rotor. The exhaust gases from two groups of cylinders are fed through separate passages 17, 18, to separate inlet scrolls 27, Fig. 4, both of which extend right round the circumference of the rotor 21 of a turbine driving an air compressor 12. In a modification the passages 17, 18 lead into their respective scrolls at diametrically opposite points and in Fig. 8 (not shown) the passages lead to radially separated scrolls 41.
