848,027. Rotary I.C. engines. INSTITUT FRANCAIS DE PETROLE, DES CARBURANTS ET LUBRIFIANTS. Dec. 30, 1957 [Dec. 19, 1956], No. 40340/57. Class 110 (2). In a rotary I.C. engine of the multiple rotary abutment type at least one of the rotary abutments M is provided with or is associated with at least one combustion chamber C, whilst two consecutive rotary abutments G, H not associated with a combustion chamber define a compression zone for gases to be compressed. The stator is provided with an air intake passage A, an exhaust passage B, a secondary exhaust passage L, a scavenging and supercharging passage F and compressor inlet and outlet passages C, S. In a modification, Fig. 2, not shown, the combustion chambers are defined by the abutment recesses and the passages A, C, L are disposed transverse to the remaining passages. In a second modification, Fig. 3, not shown, the combustion chamber is disposed in the stator. Part of the compressed gases may be used to scavenge, supercharge and/or cool the stator and the rotors.
