[Also in Group XXVIII] A deep well pump comprises a body 17 connected to the surface by a pressurized gas supply conduit 12 and a production discharge conduit 13. The pump pistons 61 are actuated by gas pressure applied alternately to oppositely-facing surfaces of the pistons 61 under the control of a reciprocating valve 71 which is movable to opposite end positions by the gas pressure and in each position engages separate locking ele-. ments 76 or 77 which are released by cams 86, 184 on the pistons 61 at the end of the piston stroke. The valve 71 is housed in a block 23 through which the hollow piston-rod 57 passes and includes a pressure chamber 22 connected by a duct 18 and a port 19 with the pressure conduit 12 and an exhaust chamber 25. The pump chamber 32 has a suction .valve 31, the piston assembly a bucket valve 64 and the pump chamber 49 an outlet valve 46, the outlet from which passes through ducts 44 to the conduit 13. The conduits 12, 13 are rigidly connected and carry heads 34, 39 which are slidable in the body 17, the head 39 having a surface 40 which engages a valve seat 41 when the pump is in the lowered position, in which position pressurized gas passes from the conduit 12 to the port 19 and also through ducts 43 into the conduit 13 to aerate the liquid therein. When the conduits 12, 13 are raised relative to the body 17, the port 19 is closed and gas from the duct 12 forces the liquid up the conduit 13. Thereafter solvent may be circulated through the conduit 12, 13 to clear the deposits therein.
