Abstract
765,397. Bucket pumps. NEW YORK AIR BRAKE CO. Feb. 18, 1955 [March 11, 1954], No. 4889/55. Class 102(1) A high speed. high pressure: pump comprises open-ended bores or cylinders in a block 9 and closed at one end by discharge valves 27, the cylinders receiving pistons 31, 32 each consisting of a head 31 and a skirt 32 slotted at 36 to be open substantially always to an inlet chamber 13 and mounting at its open end a poppet valve 39 the stem of which terminates in a guide portion 42 having limited sliding movement in a bore 37 in the piston head 31. As shown, nine cylinders are arranged about a shaft 18 carrying a swash plate 23 contacting the piston heads 31 and the skirts 32 have two slots 36 each. Each discharge valve 27 operates in a bore in a cap member 7 between which and a body member 6 the cylinder block 9 is clamped. As the piston recedes from its cylinder, the valve 39 opens through its own inertia to an extent determined by a pin 43 in a groove in the guide portion 42 which is of greater diameter than the valve stem 41 and acts as a plunger in the bore 37, the bore having a small vent 38. The parts are so proportioned that the space between the valve 39 and the skirt 32 offers the greatest resistance to flow. Specification 588,615 is referred to.
