[Class 135] [Also in Group XXVI] A fluid valve comprises a reciprocating plunger 12 extending through a bore in a tubular body 10 and supported by end abutment caps 13 so as to form an annular chamber 35 between the plunger and the body which is divided by an annular abutment ring 44 into supply and discharge compartments connected respectively with supply and discharge ports 25, 26. A spring 45 presses sealing rings 37, 38 against one end abutment cap and against the annular abutment ring respectively, while a perforated tubular extension of the abutment ring presses a sealing ring 36 against the other abutment cap. The sealing rings are U-shaped, seat away from the supply port, and have bevelled spreader rings 39, 40, 41 urging the sealing rings into contact with the plunger. A reduced portion 33 on the plunger allows fluid to flow from the supply to the discharge port in one end position of the plunger, or from the discharge to an exhaust port 14 in the other end position of the plunger as shown. In another embodiment, two pairs of sealing rings on either side of two annular abutment rings are pressed apart by a central spring so that a plunger having two reduced portions allows fluid to flow from a supply port to either one of two discharge ports, the other discharge port being opened to one of two exhaust ports formed at the ends of the bore. In a further modification, the reduced portion on the plunger is replaced by longitudinal grooves.
