765,000. Locking nuts and bolts. GORDON, C. B. Feb. 5, 1955, No. 3489/55. Class 89 (1). A bolt 11, Fig. 1, has a reduced end 14 with a screw-thread of opposite sense to the main thread 12, on which is screwed a nut 15 having an arm 16 whose free end is forced against a face of the nut and the body 10, as shown dotted, to lock the nut and bolt. Any tendency of the nut to unscrew carries the arm 16 with it and thus forces it harder against the body 10. In a modification, the arm 23, Fig. 3, is carried by a stem 22 screwing in a bore 21 in the bolt by a thread of opposite sense to the main thread 19, the stem having flats 22A so that it may be withdrawn if the arm 23 breaks. There may be two or more arms branching from the nut 15 or stem 22.
