20,069. Aubrey, A. W. Sept. 23. Locking nuts. - A screw for locking a nut to a bolt is inserted in a threaded opening in the nut parallel to and communicating with the main bore. The screw C has a flat side 1, which when placed next to the threads of the bolt B, enables the nut to be screwed on or off. When turned into the position shown in Fig. III, the threads of the locking- screw C, which may be of different pitch and hand from those of the main thread, engage and mutilate the threads of the bolt. The locking- screw is first turned slightly and then rolled into the position shown by applying a spanner to the nut. Fig. V. shows a collar A<1> secured to an unthreaded shaft B' by means of the locking-screw C, which engages a flattened face on the shaft.
