Abstract
753,795. Transformers. RAMSEY, A.R. J. (McGraw Electric Co.). July 20, 1954, No. 21151/54. Class 38 (2). [Also in Group XXII] A three-phase transformer comprises a core in three parts each in the form of a closed loop with two straight legs formed from wound strip, the successive laminations being displaced uniformly to provide slanting faces, so that the three parts can be assembled together with slanting faces of the legs adjacent to form a three-legged structure. As shown in Fig. 1, circular coils 1, 2, 3 may be wound around the composite core legs, the space factor being improved by making each core of two strips of different widths, 4, 6. The wider strip 4 is wound first and the narrower strip joined before winding by welding or engaging slots, Fig. 8 (not shown). The core turns may be displaced during winding, or by pressing between two suitably shaped clamping members 9, 10, Fig. 6, drawn together by bolts 11. The cores may be annealed while clamped on a mandrel, Fig. 9 (not shown).
