Abstract

526,611. Transformers; inductances. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. March 22, 1939, No. 9068. Convention date, March 22, 1938. [Class 38(ii)] A core for an inductance or transformer is formed by first winding metal strip to the final size the core will have and heat treating it to give the metal a permanent set, then rewinding to form a coil in which the relative positions of the ends are reversed, care being taken not to bend the strip beyond its elastic limit, then finally winding in position on the coil, the outer end being secured by spot welding &c. Fig. 9 shows a machine for winding the rewound metal strip into its final position on the coil 11. The core is wound on to a split insulating sleeve 22 the end of the strip being crimped at 45 to engage the slot. Rollers 31, driven through belts 41, 42 and gearing 39, 40, rotate the sleeve and wind the strip 30 off to it from the coil 14. If desired two or more cores may be provided to the same windings, the metal strip is preferably of high reduction cold rolled silicon steel or nickel-iron. Specification 501,474 is referred to.
