[Class 38 (ii)] In applying wound strip cores to a formerwound conductive winding, the preformed core is supported in a plane other than that in which it will lie when transferred to the winding and the strip is then wound off the preformed core starting from either the inside or the outside and is simultaneously rewound round the winding leg in such manner that the sequence of the turns remains unchanged. Fig. 2 shows a machine comprising a power-driven turntable 21 for supporting the preformed core 11 in a plane parallel to but below that of the table 19 supporting the core during rewinding. The inner turns of the preformed core are pulled out so that the inner end of the strip 16 may be coiled round the winding leg 12 and the subsequent coiling is effected by rollers 28, 29 at least one of which is power-driven. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the preformed coil 36 is supported in a plane at right-angles to the plane of the finished core 38, the strip being unwound from the outside of the preformed core and coiled inwardly during rewinding, a flanged guide roller 43 being provided for this purpose.
