Abstract

582,319. Electromagnetic cores. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 22, 1944, No. 18102. Convention date, Sept. 22, 1943. [Classes 35 and 38 (ii)] An electromagnetic core comprises a non- circular coil of strip magnetic material wound with spacers placed between successive layers at one end so that they progress at an angle with the longitudinal axis of the coil, and during the subsequent anneal the spacers burn out or contract, allowing the strip to sag at the spaced end into a substantially symmetrical position. The strip is wound on a mandrel 11 having a pair of arms 25 extending at about 30 degrees to the longitudinal axis 21 for guiding spacing shims 20 which may be of paper into the desired position. Fig. 7 shows - the symmetrical condition of the coil after annealing and it is subsequently unwound and rewound through the opening in a preformed bobbin winding.
