Abstract
1389535 Coil bobbins M BARTHALON 3 April 1973 [25 April 1972] 15949/73 Heading B8M [Also in Division D1] A bobbin for an electrical coil has a core 1 formed with (a) at least one flat face 4, Fig. 2, (b) wire guiding notches 5 spaced at least along the two edges of the flat face 4 and (c) end flanges 3 each provided on an internal face thereof with a hollowed-out portion 8 adjacent the flat face 4 and flared out towards the periphery of the flange 3. In Fig. 2 the core is rectangular but it may be cylindrical provided that it has a flat crossing face 4. In the cylindrical embodiment the notches 5 are grooves that extend around the cylindrical surface in planes normal to the axis of the core. The notches or grooves 5 may be V-shaped, semicircular or rectangular. As a wire 11, Fig. 8, is wound across the flat face 4 it is displaced by one pitch, the remainder of the turn being in a plane substantially at right angles to the axis of the core 1. When a first layer has been formed the wire moves up as at 14a into the hollowed-out portion 8 of the flange, with which the wire is now in contact, and the direction of traverse of the wire is then reversed. The beginning of the winding commences on the flat face 4 and extends through an aperture 9, Fig. 8, in the hollowed out flange portion 8.
