Abstract
543,004. Transformers ; reactors. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. Sept. 30, 1940, No. 14708. Convention date, Sept. 28, 1939. [Class 38 (ii)] In transferring the convolutions of wound strip cores to the sides of former-wound coils by unwinding a pre-formed core into a series of large loops 30 passing through the coil window the loops then being collapsed on to the coil side, the inner end 62 of the strip is secured by a pivoted jaw 621 to a driving spindle which effects unwinding, the jaw being adapted to release the strip when the unwinding is completed. The outer end 21 of the strip is secured during unwinding to the adjacent convolution by a tongue passing through an aperture in the strip, the engagement being subsequently released to permit collapsing of the loops on to the winding side, this being effected by driven rollers bearing on the outer loop. Two cores are simultaneously wound, one on to each coil side. Thus the two sets of loops support each other away from the coil sides. A machine for effecting the operations and which includes readily-releasable means for supporting the coil structure is described in detail in the Specification. Specification 501,474 is referred to.
