Abstract

804,412. Transformers. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Dec.19, 1956 [Dec. 29, 1955], No. 38673/56. Class 38 (2). A magnetic core is formed by winding a strip of oriented magnetic material round a mandrel, cutting through the turns, clamping these together near the cut at 12, and straightening the laminations so formed so that the free ends are in stepped relationship. The laminations are then clamped at 15 near the steps, the clamp 12 released and the laminations recoiled so that they rejoin in stepped-lap relationship (Fig. 3). Groups of laminations so treated are superposed around each other so that the stepped-lap joints overlay each other. A core so formed is shaped and annealed and fitted on to a preformed coil by opening the laminations. The portion of one lamination overlapping the next lamination is preferably between 2.5 and 6 times the thickness.
