Abstract
806,452. Electric coils. SYLVANIA ELECTRIC PRODUCTS Inc. Dec. 29, 1954 [Dec. 30, 1953], No. 26229/58. Divided out of 806,451. Class 35. [Also in Group XXII] Coils are made by winding a roll of conducting foil 2 spaced by insulation 3 on a rotatable wooden core 1 and slicing off the coils by a thin cutter 5 which is advanced through the radial distance between turns for each revolution of the roll. It is stated that this avoids producing metal bridges between turns. The foil is secured in a roll by the insulation layer or by impregnation before slicing with wax, resin or synthetic plastic. The cutter may be of rotating wheel type and coils of length 0.013 inch are cut off. The foil is 0.00025 inch thick aluminium. The coils may be mounted on a ferromagnetic core or may be enclosed in a cup of iron powder or iron oxide bonded with plastic. Alternate coils on a core may be primary and secondary windings of a transformer where tight coupling is required; otherwise the coils may be grouped in the usual way. Coils may be connected in series or parallel, the coils being wound in the appropriate senses.
