Abstract

PURPOSE:To reduce the thickness of a stator core by providing a predetermined insulating layer on such a portion of the surface of the stator core which is not opposed to a rotor, and placing a toroidal winding around each yoke portion having a slot of the stator core. CONSTITUTION:An annular or cylindrical stator core 11 consisting of a tooth portion 14 provided with slots 12 in a spaced manner, and a yoke portion 15 provided on the outer side of the tooth portion 14, is provided with windings 13 each of which is placed through each of the slots 12 and across the relative section of the yoke portion 15, to form a stator 1. In order to insulate the stator core 11 against the winding 13, an insulating material, such as a synthetic material or the like is coated on the whole surface of the stator core 11 except inner end surfaces 14a of the tooth portion 14, which are opposed to a rotor, to form an insulating layer 16. Methods suitably used to form the insulating layer 16 include a powder coating method, an electrostatic coating method, a brush coating method and a spray coating method. The stator core 11 may be formed by putting together a plurality of separately formed cores 11a.
