Abstract
1,188,177. Transformers; inductors. WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC CORP. 4 Dec., 1967 [27 Dec., 1966], No. 54964/67. Heading H1T. Each yoke of the laminated magnetic core of an inductive apparatus is clamped by an assembly including two separately-made side portions which extend over the full length of the yoke and are rigidly connected together to apply a uniformly-distributed clamping pressure to the yoke. In the transformer 100 shown the upper yoke clamping assembly is constituted by two L-shaped steel members 62, 64 welded together along their whole length at 94, and the lower yoke clamping member by L-shaped member 68 and flat member 70 which are welded together at 92. The welding is carried out while the associated yoke is under hydraulic pressure. Flat end plates 72, 74, may be welded to the two clamping assemblies, and to brace the core against short-circuit forces wooden wedges (not marked in Fig. 4) are driven between these plates and the outer legs. Insulating layers of corrugated and sheet pressboard (54, Fig. 1, not shown) are disposed between adjacent winding assemblies and between the end winding assemblies 104, 108 and the end plates to brace the windings and to provide cooling ducts for the oil or SF 6 in which the transformer is immersed The transformer may be single or polyphase.
