[Also in Group XIII] A fire-back boiler structure for use in an open fireplace, comprises a casing, a boiler supported in the casing such that a back-flue is formed and baffle means defining with the boiler top a flue passage extending from the back-flue and over the boiler said flue passage having an outlet at the front of the boiler such that products of combustion flowing upwardly through the back-flue will pass through said outlet and will be able to merge with those flowing directly upwardly in front of the boiler before passing into the chimney. The fire-back boiler structure 1 shown forming part of the open fireplace 3 comprises a back plate 4 and side plates 5 the side plates carrying a boiler 7 and'the back and side plates carrying a stool 6 and baffle plate 12 such that flues 10, 11 and 13 are provided along the bottom, rear and top surfaces of the boiler to provide one path to the chimney for the hot gases arising from the fire on grate 23. The baffle plate 12 is extended at 17 to form, with the rearside 18 of the fireplace surround 2, a chimney throat 14. A removable plate 19 spans the gap between plates 4 and 17. The upper part 6b of the stool 6 is readily removable when cleaning of the boiler flues is necessary. Rearward extensions 15 of the boiler and ribs 16 extending forwardly from the plate 4 meet to form the side boundaries of the flue 11. The ribs 16 may be formed integral with extensions 15 or they may be omitted the extensions then being formed so as to engage the plate 4. The boiler is formed with ribs 9 and its opening 30 is sealed with a stopper 31 and protected from the fire by a removable L-shaped plate 32 held in position by lugs 33 formed on the plates 5. The fireplace side cheeks are fire-bricks 22 which abut flanges 21 on the plates 5.
