Abstract

748,098. Lap-forming apparatus. T.M.M. (RESEARCH), Ltd. Oct. 12, 1954 [Oct. 12, 1953], No. 27976/53. Class 120 (1). Relates to fibre-opening or like apparatus wherein fibres are collected from an airstream on a perforated suction cage having an internal suction nozzle inducing fibre deposition on that part of the cage opposite to the nozzle intake, the fibres being removed from the cage in sheet form; baffles or deflectors are provided within the nozzle shaped so as to induce a more intense draught through portions of the nozzle intake opposite the regions of the cage where the fibre layer deposition is otherwise apt to be thinnest, thereby ensuring an even layer distribution over the length of the cage. As shown, the nozzle is formed of a U-section member 13 communicating with exhaust ducts 12 and the baffles are provided in two sets 14, 15 and 16, 17 facing the two ducts 12. Baffles 14 and 17 are provided with adjustable lower portions 141, 171 respectively, whereby the overall length of the baffles can be varied. Baffles 15, 16 may be secured at 151, 161 and their upper ends 152, 162 subsequently secured after experiment to determine the optimum positions for evenness of the layer of fibres deposited on cage 10.
