961,511. Carding engines. F. REITERER, WINDISCH, and J. NIFENECKER. Dec. 7, 1962 [April 18, 1962], No. 46310/62. Heading D1N. Fibre webs are detached from a carding engine doffer by a combination of three rollers the first of which co-operates with the doffer, the second co-operates with the first roller and the doffer, and the third co-operates with the second roller. Although the second and third rollers are preferably smooth, they may have surfaces formed to bring about adhesion of the web. It is desirable that the first roller has a roughened, grooved or serrated surface or raised portions upon it such as needle-like members, fins or small blades which latter may be rigid, flexible or pivoted. The fins may be caused to set up an air flow that assists in detachment of the web. In the form shown, the first or initiating roller 3 is a perforated tube, the second or conveying roller is indicated at 4 and the third or tensioning roller at 5. The three rollers do not make contact and do not compress the web, their speeds are adjustable and the positioning of rollers 3 and 5 is also adjustable.
