666,965. Crushing fibrous stalks. THORNTON. A. A., (Ignaz Etrich). Dec. 31, 1947. No. 35215/47. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 31, 1947]. Class 120(i) An apparatus for crushing bast fibre material comprises two superposed rows of three or more crushing rollers forming two or more nips therebetween, a conveyer device arranged in continuation of said crushing rollers in the direction of travel of said bast fibre material for conveying said material from the crushing rollers to a swingling device, and resilient guide members for guiding the material between the crushing rollers and through said conveying device, the arrangement of the component parts being such that the bast fibre material can be passed through the apparatus in a transverse position relative to its direction of travel and parallel to said rollers. Bast fibre is passed in a transverse position between smooth crushing rollers 2, 3, a grooved crushing roller 4, a ribbed conveyer disc 10, a grooved conveyer disc 6 and conveyer roller means 18, and is then moved along by a conveyer belt 17 to a swingling device. Resiliently mounted guide plates 13 are spaced between the upper rollers to co-operate with the lower rollers. Knives on the ends of the first two crushing rollers 2, 3 serve to cut off projecting ends of the stems, while a disc, secured to one end of the conveyer roller means 18 bends the ends of the fibres downwardly as they leave the disc 6.
