Abstract

761,472. Removing dust &c. from carding engines. HOWORTH & SON, Ltd., D. April 28, 1955 [April 29, 1954], No. 12397/54. Class 120 (3). In a carding machine having a suction clearer, pipes extend transversely of the machine beside the taker-in roller, both pipes being divided longitudinally into passageways opening at intervals along the length of the pipes and having baffles on the pipes to direct dust and fly to the suction openings therein. Each pipe B, B<SP>1</SP> contains dividing plates b in order to provide a substantially constant suction distribution throughout the length of each pipe. Both pipes B, B<SP>1</SP> are connected by conduits C, C<SP>1</SP> to a fan D that delivers the dust and the like into a bag d<SP>1</SP> in a case D<SP>1</SP>. A baffle a<SP>3</SP> is provided above calender rollers a to prevent the escape of dust and fly and further baffles b<SP>2</SP> are provided to project from the pipe B<SP>1</SP>. In a modification, the pipes B, B<SP>1</SP> may contain slots running the complete length of their intake faces with movable baffle plates arranged inside the pipes.
