764,137. Fibre opening machines. DODD INVESTMENTS, Ltd., RUSCA, R. A. and YOUNG, R. C. Jan. 17, 1955, No. 1338/55. Class 120 (1). In a fibre-opening machine such as that described in U.S.A. Specification 2,365,793, having fibre processing and doffing devices 19, a flue intake casing 11 communicating with a flue 12 encloses the devices 19 and a series of air intake chambers 13. The doffing devices are as described in U.S.A. Specification 2,607,958. Each chamber 13 has an individually controlled air intake opening through the side of shell 11 and a small air discharge opening 20 adjacent the fibre-release portion of one of the doffers. The air inlet to the lowest doffer is through a slot 14 in shell 11 ; slot 14 may have an adjustable cover or the amount of air passing therethrough may be controlled by regulating the amounts taken in through chambers 13. In another embodiment, the casing and passages therein are straightsided to avoid eddy currents. Preferably, flue 12 leads to a source of suction ; alternatively the delivery air streak may operate under pressure created by the doffers, particularly when the latter are of the brush type, and may be aided by forcing in addition air or applying suction as needed.
