Abstract

1,216,706. Open end spinning. MAREMONT CORP. 30 Jan., 1968 [31 Jan., 1967], No. 4786/68. Heading D1D. An open end spinning rotor 20 has a chamber defined by a wall 28 at right angles to the rotor axis and a curved imperforate surface of revolution 24, the surfaces forming a groove in which the fibres are laid. The end wall 28 has apertures 27 therein through which air flows outwardly of the chamber, through ducts 32 into an enclosure 14 whence the air passes away along a duct 15. The chamber and enclosure 14 are closed by a cover 40 having a part 42 projecting into the interior of the rotor. A funnel shaped yarn exit aperture 50 is formed in the cover which has a cone shaped depression 46 at its inner end and curved edges over which the yarn passes. The cover also has a sliver inlet conduit 44 through which sliver is drawn by the lower pressure in the chamber to deposit fibres on the surface 24 at T. In Fig. 5 not shown rotors (60, 70) are driven from a comon motor (M) and the exhausted air passes to a common suction pump (80). The yarn leaving each rotor is sensed by feelers (64, 74) and on there being an absence of yarn control apparatus actuates a valve (62 or 72) in the associated air exhaust duct to prevent further sliver being drawn into the associated rotor. The sliver which is still forwarded by rollers (52', 54' or 52", 54") is sucked away along a conduit (66 or 67) to the common suction source (80) until the fault is repaired.
