Abstract

477,259. Twisting fibres. BERTHELSEN, S. E. June 5, 1937, No. 15639. [Class 120 (ii)] In twisting jute, hemp, wool, cotton, and like fibres into yarn by depositing them in a loose condition on the inner surface of a rotating drum and withdrawing them in line with its axis of rotation as spun yarn, the foremost end of a sliver or rove 33 is brought into contact with a rotating body so that the fibres are disengaged from each other and are applied to the drum 10. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 1, the rotating body is constituted by the drum 10 itself, and in that shown in Fig. 2, by a rotating bowl 44 which may be provided with card teeth or the like. The yarn is continuously withdrawn by a roller 40 and wound on a roller 42, after initial withdrawal by a hook. A stationary casing 28 may surround the drum from which air may be exhausted through a pipe 30 so as to effect a cleaning from dust and to assist in the laying of the material. The bowl 44 may rotate at the same speed as the drum and the yarn may then be withdrawn through the axial stud 58, and its axis may be inclined to that of the drum.
