Abstract
For the collection of viscose, cuprammonium, cellulose acetate, and other wet spun silks, there are used permeable or perforated bobbins or rollers of more than 200 mm. diameter, for example, of 300 or 400 mm. or more diameter, and on these bobbins are wound one or more laps of at least 300 grms., preferably of 500 grms., dry weight, although laps of 1000-2000 grms. may be applied. By providing for the collection of such extended lengths on a single roller, wastage is minimized, the time of spinning is prolonged, and higher spinning speeds up to 100 metres per minute or more are permitted, particularly if the bobbins are driven by roller friction. The threads are washed in the bobbins &c. by the pressure or suction method, and, if desired, they are also desulphurized, acidified, decoppered, bleached, oiled and then dried on the bobbins. The threads are removed into skeins of the usual length, which are sorted into qualities.
