Abstract

791,339. Carding-engines. LING, W. T. Feb. 10, 1956 [Feb. 11, 1955], No. 4136/55. Class 120(1) In a cotton carding-engine, air currents set up in the region of the nose of the dish plate and blowing towards the takein cause all the fibres advanced by the feed roll to adhere to saw-teeth on the take-in. The apparatus shown comprises a hollow taker-in cylinder 1 the wall of which is perforated by radial holes 3 through which air currents pass inwardly to a suction duct 6 having an inlet 8 and an outlet 9 and outwardly from a pressure duct 7, both ducts being formed by a damper 4 comprising plates fixed to a stationary tubular shaft 5 through holes 19 in which compressed air is supplied at both ends from the outlet of a blower (not shown). The nose 10 is shorter than normal and a baffle 17 is spaced therefrom to provide an inward passage for air currents. The transference of fibre to the main cylinder 18 is effected by a clearer roller 24, rotating at a lower peripheral speed than the' taker-in, assisted by air emerging from outlets 20, 21, in the duct 7. Fibre remaining on the taker-in and normally tending to form neps is removed by the air current passing from the outlet 9, through an opening 12 in a cover plate 13, exhaust conduit 14, and.pipe 15 connected to the inlet of the blower.
