864,367. Threshing machines. KONINKLIJKE VERIENIGDE TABAKSINDUSTRIEEN MIGNOT & DE BLOCK N.V. March 10, 1959 [March 19, 1958 ; June 14, 1958], No. 8298/59. Class 6(3). A tobacco-threshing machine comprises a threshing chamber 1 containing a threshing cylinder 2 the chamber being adjacent to a suction conduit 10 and separated from it by a grid 4 through which some of the threshed material passes, the chamber having also an inlet-aperture 7 and an outlet aperture 6 through which the remainder of the threshed material passes. A belt-conveyer 8 carries the tobacco to the inlet 7 and a -second belt-conveyer 13 carries away the material from the outlet 6, and the heavier stems passing through the grid 4 but failing to be lifted by the air current in the duct 10. These are fed to a second threshing chamber 15 having a beater 16, grid 18, and suction duct 20 but having a plate 19 closing the lower part of the chamber, so that all the threshed material is entrained in the airstream. In modifications, Figs. 2, 3, 4 (not shown), the aperture 6 contains a grid which may have adjustable mesh-size, and the lower part 11 of the outlet contains a rotary valve which prevents air from passing upwardly into the threshing chamber.
