Abstract
744,387. Discharge lamps. TESLA, NARODNI PODNIK. Aug. 6, 1953 [Aug. 7, 1952], No. 21746/53. Class 39 (1). The hot electrodes are enclosed in casings partly or wholly perforated or formed of wire gauze, so that if the lamp breaks in an explosive atmosphere an explosion cannot develop by contact with the hot electrode. As shown the casings are flattened cylinders 7 of steel or nickel wire gauze of 0.5 mm. mesh or less, with solid end walls 6, 8, the casing being connected to one of the cathode leads 4 passing through end walls 6. The casing acts as the anode of the opposite cathode and is positioned inside the Crookes dark space so as not to disturb the discharge mechanism. In other forms the casing is solid but the end wall facing the discharge is formed of a layer of gauze, or alternatively two spaced layers where strong draughts are likely. The lamp may be fluorescent.
