739,692. Sailing vessels. WOTTON, E. May 18, 1954, No. 14506/54. Class 115. In a rig for fore-and-aft sailing vessels having sails H, K arranged longitudinally, at least one sail H together with the wire or feature of any kind (if any) to which its luff is attached is capable of being transferred laterally across the width or part of the width of the vessel so that the whole of its luff is to port or starboard of the whole of the luff of the other sail K by means of an overhead transverse slide bar, spar, or wire and sliding block or pulley or ring thereon supported aloft by masts and associated with similar or known means of traversing the foot or tack of the sail. In the embodiment shown in the Figures the foremast is replaced by parallel masts A and B supporting a crossbar C.
