Abstract

737,248. Cranes and hoists mounted on vehicles. PLAYFORD, F. D. June 25, 1954 [Nov. 12, 1953], No. 31387/53. Classes 78 (2) and 78 (4). A hoist for loading a vehicle is operated by the weight of an operator standing on a flexible tread mill 14 connected to a cable 12 which passes over pulleys 10, 11, mounted for slewing movement, to a load-engaging device 13. As illustrated the tread mill 14 may be used by the operator as a ladder to climb the vehicle when a stop 16 on the cable 12 engages the jib 8 carrying the pulleys. The jib 8 is formed with a leg 9 rotating within a tubular standard 4 removably mounted in brackets at a rear corner of a vehicle. The pair of pulleys 10, 11 may be replaced by a single pulley mounted for rotation about a vertical axis and the simple cable connection 12 may be replaced by a block and tackle. The device may be mounted on a vehicle provided with a moving floor.
