Abstract

736,256. Ring spinning. SCRAGG & SONS, Ltd., E., BOURNE & CO., Ltd., S., and BENNETT, E. H. June 17, 1954 (June 18, 1953], No. 16820/53. Class 120(2). In a ring spinning machine the ring is mounted rotatably on or in a pivoted arm so that it can be swung to and from an endless driving belt, the centre of the ring being aligned with the axis of a spindle which can also be moved into and out of contact with a driving belt, a controlled synchronisation of moving the ring and spindle to and from their respective driving belts being used to effect starting and stopping of both, which latter may be effected automatically by a stop motion on breakage of the thread. As shown the ring 8 is secured in a mounting 10 constituting a whorl, which is carried by ball bearings 11 in an arm 12 pivotably mounted on a rod 5. The spindle mounting 4 is also carried by the rod 5 and is situated below the ring mounting. A pillar 6 interconnects the two mounting arms so that they can be swung about the rod 5 in synchronism. A braking arm 16 is provided for bringing the ring mounting 10 to rest when it is moved out of contact with its driving belt. A similar or conventional brake may also be provided for the spindle. To ensure that when the spindle and ring are moved " on " the spindle attains a sufficient rotational speed to allow the traveller drag to act before the ring is rotated the ring 8 may be held against rotation by the brake 16 which may be allowed to follow the ring for this purpose, or by delaying the time of contact between the ring whorl 10 and its driving belt.
