[Also in Group XXIV] Means for controlling the speed of rotation of winding bobbins or of the means delivering thread thereto in winding, twisting and spinning frames where the diameter of the package varies during winding, comprises a belt travelling over two rollers which is displaceable by a feeler according to the tension in a loop of the thread and a member rotating about an axis at an angle to the rotational axis of the rollers and in contact with the belt so as to impart to or derive from the rollers a speed which varies according to the part of the rotating member contacted by the belt. In Fig. 1 where the material is supplied at constant speed, a driven member 2 is in contact with an elastic belt 5 passing over rollers 3, 4, the latter carrying a winding spindle 14. A pivoted lever 8 carries at one end a follower 12 in a loop of thread, and at the other two pins engaging the belt. As the lever pivots with the movement of the follower, the belt is moved to make contact with the rotating member 2 at points moving at different rotational speeds to vary the speed of the spindle. In a modification, one of the rollers may be driven and varying speeds imparted to a member similar to 2 in Fig. 1, which drives the supply means, the winding spindle being driven at constant speed. In either form, the rotary member 2 may be in the form of a cone or the end of a cylinder, and one or more weights may be provided on the lever to make it more sensitive.
