Abstract

666,369. Winding yarn. CELANESE CORPORATION OF AMERICA. Sept. 30, 1949 [Oct. 2, 1948], No. 25207/49. Class 120(ii) A yarn winding machine of the kind in which the package being wound is rotated by frictional contact with a drive roll, the axes of the roll and package moving relatively to each other as the package diameter increases, is furnished with means whereby the movement of separation of the axes is momentarily checked at intervals so as to damp oscillations of the package towards and away from the drive roll. The package 10 carried on a tube 11, is rotated on a spindle 12 rotated by the roll 13 and supported by a bracket 15 pivoted at 17 to the machine frame 18. A slowly rotating shaft 19, which may form part of a stopmotion device, through:an eccentric cam 20, raises and lowers a bar 23 to strike a sleeve 36 on a spring-urged rod 32 which, in rising, moves a cap 33 to grip momentarily a rod 24 fixed to and moved by the bracket 15 as the package grows. By varying the total time for which the rod 24 is gripped between the cap 33 and a grooved bracket 27, the density of the package 10 may be varied. It is stated that the device operates to produce round packages on tubes which are " out of round."
