Abstract
600,167. Winding yarn. CHALLINOR, G. J., and CHALLINOR, G. R. Sept. 29, 1945, No. 25327. [Class 120(ii)] In a yarn-winding machine, the yarn passes from a hank &c. 1 through a guide 2 to a bobbin 3 carried by a spindle and rotated by friction discs 11 on a fast moving shaft. When the bobbin is about half-filled with yarn, the package contacts an arm 4 to close a micro-switch 5 and remove a catch to release spring-urged rods 15 to lift the half-filled bobbin to a bridge piece 7 down which the spindle rolls until it is brought to rest by springs 8 in bearings situated over friction discs 10 by which it is driven at slower speed until the package is completely wound. A second guide 9 traverses the yarn for the second half of the winding.
