March 11, 1957 [March 24, 1956], No. 9242/56- Class 120(3) In a device for waxing yarns during winding by passing the yarn between a disc of wax carried on a spindle and a base rotatably mounting the spindle, rotation of the disc (by the yarn) relative to the speed of passage of the yarn is limited by means of an escapement movement which only permits of an intermittent rotation of the disc at a predetermined rate, thus encouraging uniform waxing of the yarn and wear on the disc: also, if a yarn breakage occurs, the pull of the yarn is insufficient to overcome the inertia of the device and the tendency of the yarn end to wrap around the spindle is eliminated. The device shown comprises a basal member 10 mounting a fixed spindle 11 on which a spindle 15 is rotatably mounted by means of a conical peg 17 and seating 11c and carries a table 18 for suporting a wax disc W and a star wheel 19 the teeth of which are intermittently and alternately engaged by teeth 21 of a pivotally mounted escapement lever 20 the mass of the unpivoted end of which provides the tension on the yarn.
