Abstract

852,703. Winding yarns. LEESONA HOLT Ltd., [formerly TWO GATES MILL Ltd]. July 16, 1958 [March 22, 1958], No. 9257/58. Class 120(2). A high speed textile winding machine of the: type in which the package holder and package are rotated by surface contact with a rotary winding drum and which has a multiplicity.of winding heads and complemental driving rolls is characterised in that the package holder, and packages are not driven by direct surface, contact with the driving rollers but through the intermediary of a rotary traverse cam driven by frictional contact with the driving roll and transmitting rotary motion to the package holder and package. In the embodiment shown each winding head 17 travels around the tracks 12, 13 in the direction of arrows B and comprises an upper carriage 26 guided by rollers on track 12, and a supply bobbin receiving spindle 21 mounted in a bottom bracket 22 (Fig. 12) guided on track 13. Located along each side of the machine is a driving roller 16 driven by an electric motor in the circuit of which is a contact breaker for effecting a slight variation in the peripheral speed of the driving rolls. Below the roll 16 is an eccentric roll 25. Each carriage 26 carries a shaft 36 at the ends of which a pair of levers 37, 38 are mounted. Between the upper ends of levers 37, 38 is a shaft 39 carrying a traverse cam 41 formed with a helical groove and having at one end a rubber tyre 412 adapted to contact the driving roll 16. The lever 38 is bell-cranked and has secured thereto a bracket 382 which pivotally carries at 47 a further bracket 42 furnished with a rod 43 having adjustably mounted thereon a bracket 44 furnished with a cone holder 45 to receive a cone C (not shown). The pivoted mounting 47 is of special construction to permit packages of different tapers and also cylindrical packages to be wound. Pivoted on a lug 383 of lever 38 is a bell-crank lever 48 carrying rollers 51, which track the eccentric 25, and a feeler finger 481 which co-operates with a block 54 carrying detector wire 52 to operate as a stop mechanism when yarn 'y' breaks. When the yarn breaks block 54 pivots, its movement being aided by a ball 545 rolling in a slot 543, so that the striker part 542 is brought into the path of the feeler finger 481. Thus the levers 37 and 38 pivot on the shaft 36 and remove the traverse cam from engagement with the driving roll 16 and brings its boss into engagement with a brake pad. Means are provided for temporarily holding the traverse cam 41 in the OUT position, comprising bell-cranked lever 62 having. a screw threaded spindle 64 furnsihed with a stepped disc 65 having two contact faces, and with a knob 641. When the stop mechanism operates, the inner face of the disc 65 is brought out into contact with block 66 and retained there until such time as it is reset by knob 641. The traverse drum is taken out of engagement with the driving roll as it travels round the ends of the machine but due to the high momentum of the traverse drum and the package winding continues at a reduced rate until it is brought into contact with the driving roll on the other side of the machine. As each winding head travels round the ends of the machine the traverse drum brake mechanism is rendered inoperative. A balloon controller consisting of a bar 76 (Fig. 12) bent to 'L' shape is provided as is also the usual tensioning and cleaning devices.
