Class 120(2) Spindle arrangements for machines twisting yarns or cords either on takeup . or delivery devices comprise a spindle blade, a thread guide support mounted for rotation with the . spindle blade and for movement axially of it, an anti-friction bearing mounted on the support and a thread guide support preferably consists of a pot 14 partially enclosing a bobbin 13 that is driven by the spindle blade 10 'through lugs 11 and a disc 12, which is slotted to receive keys 16, 16<SP>1</SP> formed in the inner wall of the pot 14. A bushing 22", held in the ring aperture of a conventional ring rail 23, supports the pot 14. Immediately beneath the rim of the pot 14, a ball bearing 24 is mounted for the support of a ring 27 that carries thread guides 28, 28<SP>1</SP>, adjustable vanes (not shown) and flexible brake arms provided with brake shoes that are pressed against the outer wall of the pot 14 when the pot is at rest and are thrown outwardly to free the ring 27 when the pot 14 attains a predetermined speed, say half speed. When it is free to lag behind the pot 14 under the influence of the air vanes, yarn is wound on to the bobbin 13. Means for starting and stopping the delivery rollers when the spindles reach half speed may be provided. Two delivery spindles may feed yarn to one take-up spindle, all the spindle arrangements being as described.
