Spindle apparatus; special yarns, producing; winding-machines. - In apparatus in which the yarn is withdrawn in the form of a loop from a rotating bobbin mounted on a fixed spindle so that two twists are imparted thereto for each revolution of the apparatus, the bobbin support comprises parts capable of relative movement so arranged that any tendency of the support to swing is reduced or prevented by the relative movement of the parts. With such a bobbin support is associated the means described and claimed in Specification 338,606 for effecting and maintaining the tension of the yarn. As shown in Fig. 1, the part 4 which carries the bobbin is pivoted at 5 to, the part 3 which is mounted in ball bearings on the rotating spindle 1; other arrangements may be used such as a link or chain connection between the parts, a pendulum weight carried by the support, if desired, flexibly, or balls or rollers adapted to move freely in a channel in the support. The part 3 is provided with a cap 21 with a sleeve 22 which projects into the interior of the spindle 1 and serves as a guide for the yarn as it. passes from the bobbin through the spindle to the guide disc 24. A ring 27 carried by a stationary part of the machine prevents interference of the balloons of yarn of adjacent apparatus, and a ring 28 carried by the bobbin support serves to hold the yarn clear of the bobbin when setting-up. The tensioning of the yarn is effected by the weight of the bobbin operating through a drag washer interposed between the bobbin and its support, and provision may be made to adjust or control the tension so that it remains constant during the unwinding of the bobbin, and so that it may be predetermined to suit any specified conditions; these means and the construction of the bobbin 39, Fig. 12, are the same as those described in the Specification above referred to. The arrangements may be used to the twisted yarn to a ring doubling-spindle, or a number of yarns may be twisted one round another to produce fancy effects, the tensions, counts &c. of the different yarns being arranged to give the required results. They may also be used to wrap an outer filament around a central core so as to provide insulation on a wire, as shown in Fig. 16. Specification 287,334 also is referred to.
