Abstract
287,338. Dunlop Cotton Mills, Ltd., Andrew, T. E., and Langstreth, M. Nov. 22, 1926. Spindle apparatus. - In apparatus wherein the yarn is looped and two twists are imparted thereto for each revolution of the apparatue and of the kind wherein support for the bobbin is maintained through one mounting only as distinct from a pair of oppositely disposed mountings, a ball or roller or similar bearing is provided between the stationary and rotary part thereof and is the only interposition between such parts. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 3, wherein a tension device for the varn is housed in the bobbin, a sleeve carrying the outer races of ball bearings 3 fits in the recessed stationary bobbin and the inner races thereof are fast with an extension 2 of the rotary spindle 1, a weight 7 being provided to prevent rotation of the bobbin and to balance the weight thereof and of the overhanging parts. An extension 10 of the bobbin carrier or of the bobbin may carry the inner races and the spindle may be recessed to carry the outer races, as shown in Fig. 4, wherein a tension device for the yarn is carried by the bobbin support. The spindle may be mounted substantially vertically, being inclined only so much as to allow the weighting-means to function. More than one yarn package may be carried by the device so that the yarns therefrom are twisted and cabled.
