Spindle apparatus; tension arrangements; bobbins.-Relates to yarn guiding and tensioning means for delivery apparatus wherein the yarn is locked and two twists are imparted thereto for each revolution of the apparatus, and comprises a tubular member 5 pierced at 7, 8, Fig. 2, through which the yarn passes as shown, or provided with pegs or with spring- controlled slats 19, 20, Fig. 3, and is arranged so as to extend in line or substantially in line with the axis of the bobbin. The device may be arranged in the bore of the bobbin, as shown, or may be integral with the bobbin, and then obviates the use of supports extraneous to the bobbin or spindle, but it may be arranged to be supported by the frame that weights the bobbin to prevent rotation, and may be utilised in the type of apparatus wherein the bobbin is mounted in a quadrilateral frame or closed flyer. The bobbin may be recessed and fitted on a sleeve 10 spanning the outer races of ball bearings carried by a comparatively short extension 12 of the rotary spindle, or the outer races may be fast with the spindle and the inner races carried by the bobbin support, or the bobbin may be provided with an extension adapted to fit the bore of the inner races, which may be joined by a sleeve. The means for mounting may be arranged in the manner described in Specification 287,338, the ball bearings therein described being dispensed with if desired. A weight 14 is provided to prevent rotation of the bobbin and to balance it. Two or more packages of yarn may be carried by the device so that the yarns therefrom are twisted and cabled. The device may be mounted substantially vertically, being inclined only so much as to allow the weighting- means to function.
