Abstract

287,334. Dunlop Cotton Mills, Ltd., Andrew, T. E., Langstreth, M., Howard & Bullough, Ltd., and Bancroft, J. April 13, 1927. Spindle apparatus; tension arrangements.-In apparatus wherein the yarn is looped and two twists are imparted thereto for each revolution of the apparatus, and wherein the bobbin is rotated by the yarn during unwinding, thereby tensioning the yarn, tensioning and guiding means for the yarn is associated with or adapted to actuate, wholly or partially, the means for retarding the bobbin. The yarn is passed over a guide bar 10, Fig. 2, on a spring-controlled pivoted frame 8 so that the bobbin is braked by a rigid or rotary skid 11 or a brush thereon, or is passed in a sinuous course around bars 10, Fig. 4, carried by the frame. The bobbin support 5 is loaded by a weight 15 to prevent its rotation and to balance the bobbin and the overhanging parts, and an extension 13 thereof carries the inner races of ball bearings and the rotary spindle 3 the outer races. The bobbin may rotate on a stationary spindle, or its axle may be in the form of a bush carried on bearing pins of less diameter so that the bobbin is retarded by reason of the inequality of the distribution of its weight. The apparatus may be mounted in any convenient manner, such as described in Specification 287,338. More than one package may be used so that the yarns are individually twisted and cabled.
