Abstract
568,032. Spindle apparatus. COURTAULDS, Ltd., and CURTIS, G. Sept. 9, 1943, No. 14784. [Class 120 (ii)] Apparatus for use in unwinding and simultaneously twisting yarn from a yarn package, rotating at at least 7000 revolutions per minute, comprises in combination a rotatable yarn package support 8 and a solid fixed spindle 1 having at its lower end a ball bearing 7 capable of carrying the weight of the yarn package support and the yarn package and a ball or roller bearing 6 at its upper end near the centre of gravity of the yarn package, the natural frequency of vibration of the spindle, when loaded with the yarn package support, being preferably less than 3500 vibrations per minute. The fixed spindle 1 is fitted to the machine frame 3 by a bolster 2, nut 5 and spring 4. The rotating support 8 for the package 9 wound on the tube 10 is carried by the bearings 6, 7 and is furnished with a whorl 11. An oilthrower 12 is pressed into the support 8 and is protected by a dust cap 13 fixed to the bolster 2. A cap 14 with an oil channel 15 may be fitted and where yarns of high twist are to be formed, the cap 14 may carry a flyer. Specification 486,792 is referred to.
