Abstract

705,185. Textile spinning or twisting spindles. UNIVERSAL WINDING CO. April 24, 1951 [May 1, 1950], No. 9492/51. Class 120(2) [Also in Group XXXIV] A textile spindle for spinning or twisting machines has a blade portion adapted to flex under the influence of an out-of-balance yarn package, the flexible portion being tapered throughout its length and locatea between upper and lower bearings. The spindle blade 28 may have an upper rigid portion 36, a cylindrical bearing surface 38, a flexible length 44 and a cylindrical bearing surface 40 of small diameter and provided with a flat end face to bear upon a thrust ball 58 rotatable in a pocket 56 formed in a bushing 52, preferably composed of an oil-impregnated sintered bronze material. The bushing 52 is held in a plug 50 fixed in a bolster 10 flexibly mounted in a swing bracket 20. An upper bearing 32 is provided in an upper portion 12 of the bolster 10 and has a porous lubricating ring 68 in association with a felt ring 74. A slidable locking clip 19 is arranged to extend over the flange 33 of 'a whorl 31. The flexible portion of the spindle may have a spring constant in the range of 50 to 300 pounds per inch of deflection of the 'free end of the blade.
