Class 112 [Also in Group XXXIV] Lubricant for raceways of a thread holder or spool case in the rotating loop-taker of a sewing-machine is fed from an absorbent pad or the like to one side of a collar freely surrounding the loop-taker shaft, passes through small passages in the collar to an end face of the loop-taker and, when the machine is running, is directed outwardly by centrifugal force and is guided to the raceways. As shown, the loop-taker 1 is fixed by a screw 5 on the stepped end of a driving shaft 4 which is mounted in a ball bearing 9 located in a bore 10 also containing a collar 11 surrounding the shaft 4, an oil-absorbing disc 14 of felt or the like, and spring means 15 pressing the disc against the collar 11. A collar 18 fixed on the hub 2 of the loop-taker is formed with an annular lip 17 and provided with one or more oil tubes 19 leading to the inner cavity of the loop-taker. Oil supplied to the disc 14 passes through channels 12 on the collar 11 to the end of the hub 2, is thrown out to the annular lip 17 and directed through the tube 19 to the raceway 8. Oil is supplied to the disc 14 from a container 21 by means of a wick 20 one end of which lies within the container, the other end being brought into communication with the disc 14. The wick is passed through a flexible tube 23 which can be compressed by a screw 24 to vary the supply of oil through the wick. The container 21 has an inspection glass 28 which may have a scale for checking oil consumption. The collar 11, of brass or steel, may be replaced by a collar of porous material, e.g. sintered metal, the oil channels 12 being omitted.
