Abstract

544,419. Sewing-machines. UNION SPECIAL MACHINE CO. Oct. 10, 1940, No. 15105. Convention date, Jan. 8. [Class 112] Lubricating channels. Oil thrown up from a sump L by gears 47, 46, 45, Fig. 1 is caught in the open end 141 of a tube 140 and delivered by means of wicks to the needle-driving mechanism. The oil drains to a recess 145 and thence is syphoned by wicks in a tube 147 to a reservoir 112. Oil passes from the reservoir by ports to shaft bearings, by the hollow looper shaft 31 to a hook race (this supply being regulated by a screw 34) and by wicks to the pivots &c. of the feed-bar mechanism. Feed by dogs. The feed-bar mechanism is the same as that described in Specification 413,120, but the adjustment of the shaft carrying the arm that determines the stitch length is varied by means of a threaded spindle bearing against an abutment on the shaft to move it against the force of a spring.
