Abstract
881,707. Clearing drafting rollers. RIETER & CIE A. G., JOH, JACOB. Jan. 21, 1960 [Jan. 23, 1959; June 22, 1959], No. 2248/60. Classes 120(2) and 120(3) A drafting arrangement for textile spinning and like machines comprises one or more top rollers, support means for the top roller or rollers, a clearer roller resting on at least one of the top rollers having a surface capable of accumulating fibres, and a comb having pointed teeth for picking fibres from the surface of the clearer roller. In the form shown in Figs. 1 and 2 a covered slightly conical clearer roller 4, rests on two upper drafting rollers 1 and 2 and is itself cleared by the teeth 14 of a comb 11. The angle between the comb and the tangential plane to the clearer roller at the intersection of the comb with the roller surface, is preferably between 80 degrees and 110 degrees. The comb is mounted in a slotted rod 9 which is clamped on a support 7 by resilient members 8 and has protuberances 15 fitting into recesses 16 of the clamps 8 to allow the rod 9 to rotate and not damage the needles should jamming occur. Due to its conicity the roller 4 tends to move to the left (in Fig. 1) and its axial movement is limited by a shaft 5 extending from the roller and abutting against a stationary member 6, thus leaving at the other side of the roller a clear passage for fly which is carried away by an air current as indicated by the arrows. Alternatively the axial movement of the clearer is limited by arranging a strap to pivot about the rod 9 and rest between two rings fixed to the shaft of the clearer roller. Rollers 1 and 2 rotate with different circumferential speeds and the circumferential speed of the roller 4 lies between these two speeds. In Fig. 4 the clearer roller 25 is in contact with only one upper drafting roller 1 and is braked to provide a wiping effect by having its shafts 27, 28 bear frictionally on stationary supports 26 which are mounted on the top roller supporting means. By mounting rings on the shafts 27, 28 their effective diameter may be increased so varying the braking moment on the clearer roller and its rate of slip on the drafting roller 1. In Fig. 4 the teeth of the comb lie in the same plane as the comb plate but are inclined at an angle # (preferably between 60 degrees and 90 degrees) to the axes of the roller 28 so that fly may easily be blown from the teeth. Specification 873,154 is referred to.
