Abstract

1439199 Open-end spinner; fibre opener MASCHINENFABRIK RIETER AG 5 June 1973 [7 June 1972] 26681/73 Heading DIN A clothed fibre-opening roll of an open-end spinner has a lateral, peripheral surface defining an annular gap with the roll housing through which gap air flows directly from the atmosphere through an open housing side to join the fibre-laden air flowing around the clothing. The gap length b may be greater than or equal to the square of the surface diameter times a constant k of from 0.009 to 0.12 and divided by the clothing width a. A gap may be provided at both roll sides. As shown, Fig. 2, roll 2 forms gap 14 with housing 1. The gap may be conical, Fig. 5, stepped, Fig. 6, laborynthine, Fig. 7, of varying thickness S, Fig. 8. The roll surface may be grooved, Fig. 10. The one housing corner may have radius 37, (Fig. 5) swept by bent needle 38, or may have projection 40 (Fig. 6).
