Abstract

1338349 Break spinning J I KOTTER H L SALAUN and R S BROWN 9 June 1972 27071/72 Heading DID A break spinning device comprises a circular rotatable first electrode 12, an independantly rotatable spindle 14 with a knife edge 26 projecting through a central hole in the first electrode 12, a non conducting fibre twisting element 28 projecting from the knife edge, a stationary second electrode 13 having an axially aligned opening, and means for establishing a potential difference between the electrode 12 and the spindle 14, on the one hand, and the electrode 13 on the other. In use fibres are projected into the region between the electrodes and collect on the insulated twisting element 28 and are withdrawn as a spun yarn 31 through electrode 13. The twisting element 28 may have bores through which the yarn being spun is withdrawn, and may be conical or have a yarn-engaging end piece.
