(Classes 120 (i) and 120 (iii)] In a machine for mounting fillets 2 of card clothing on a drum or roll 1 of a carding engine, the fillet passes to the drum from a braking device 3 which is freely movable along a guide bar or bars 4, 5 and an auxiliary braking device 18 is arranged in the path of the fillet and before the device 3 to produce a pull on the portion of the fillet located between the braking devices and longitudinally of the guide bar or bars. As shown, the device 3 comprises a fillet guide 6 and a roller 7 over which the fillet passes to the drum 1 and has claw-like members by which it is removably mounted on the guide bars 4, 5 disposed parallel to the axes of the drum and carried by end frames 8, 9 which also support telescopic rods carrying bearing members 16 engaging the shaft of the drum. The auxiliary device 18 consists of a disc or roller having a peripheral friction coating over which the fillet passes, the disc 18 being adjustably pressed by a screw 34 against a resilient washer abutting a stationary surface ; the angle of contact of the fillet with the disc may also be varied by passing the fillet through a guide 21 on an arm 22 adjustable about the shaft of the disc. Teeth projecting at the back of the fillet may be reset by passing the fillet over corrugated rollers 29 freely mounted between discs 27 rotatably mounted in a lever 31 pivoted on the shaft of the braking disc 18 and controlled by a counterweight 32 or spring ; the discs 27 are driven by a belt or cord 28 from a pulley 35 on the disc 18 at a greater peripheral speed than that of the disc 18.
